ive been looking at these digital camera storage devices that you can carry around and just put a full sd memory card in and transfer your pics but to be honest some are quite expensive when they have preview screens does anyone know of a guide , mod whatever really where someone made one from say a laptop hd in a case

as with many things most of these appear to be churned out by the same few factories in slightly different guises to be marketed by different companies & you can actually buy the bare case quite cheaply.

I've ordered 1 of these (can buy cheaper from HK on eBay but thought that would get a UK charger & better guarantee this way) & a new pull 2.5" 20Gb HDD from eBay - total cost incl. shipping ~£45.
Should have both early next week so will let you know.

I know this is quite what you are looking for, but if you already have a mass storage device type mp3 player and you were going to take it any way, then a syncbox could save you another large box.
Got me through a months tour of New Zeland with only a 256 card in my camera but a 20gig iRiver that i would have had to take any way.

merlin_65, it was a cinch to put together & yes, it was a UK 3-pin charger instead of the 2-pin that you get with the ones from HK via eBay.

I find it more hassle to have a USB cable connected to the camera which is then tied up whilst it downloads (& not all cameras are USB2.0).
As long as you have 2 cards with the ones with integrated readers you can be shooting on 1 card whilst the other downloads into storage..
