I just managed to blag myself 7 x 20" Sun Solaris monitors they are all happy and sat on my living room floor, rAr. This quad head graphics card I just got hold of will make a nice addition to my setup too, heh heh heh.
Went down to our store warehouse, where the old machines go to die (the place is HUGE), turned on the charm, walked away with them I'll pay them a little visit again next month sometime to see if there is anything else I can grab, heh heh. I saw an old Sun server in its 19" rack sat outside under a big pile of chairs, thought I best not push my luck, I would have just wanted it for the rack, heh heh.
Sweet! Same thing here... I work at a hospital in the IT department and once a month the computer guys (I'm a network guy and don't so much with PC's here) call a recycling company and toss old, broken or unwanted equipment. Last month I was able to snatch a HP JaserJet IID with a duplexer and a HP LaserJet 4+! They both needed a little work, but after a total of about 20 bucks, I had both up and running. Month before I nabbed a PII-300 ThinkPad with a "broken" lcd (only needed an inverter). The list goes on. It's amazing what large companies see as trash and throw away. I'm sure that hk will agree, for the people who wonder how, there's 2 things to keep in mind... 1- It's not what you know, but who you know 2- You have to be in the right place at the right time
That is too good... I have gotten a few 386s that way, but never anything better than that I was hoping to get an ociloscope from a local place, but they donated them all to the local high school.
those r actually nice monitors, i used to use em at uni, till the building with them in got burnt down... oh well. i shoulda nicked em b4 the night of the fire,
damn wish there was somewhere they chucked all the stuff @ uni but i think thy just keep using it for years and years and years and years . . . until it dies due to the sink getting clogged with dust oh well car boot tomorrow(now today :-/) see what i can get there for cheap
& who wants to bet there all worth a lot more than your NOVA j/k m8 coulent resist /me has visions of hk heading to e-bay
lol new they used to retail at about a grand, my nova was 800 so yeah leave my nova alone you monkey wh0re they arent going on ebay, the guy that helped me taxi them is having one, four are going on a quad head card, and am lending two on a long term basis to two flat mates. will sell them at the end of the year though (on here most probably) cos unless I get two transits I aint gonna be able to shift all my gear when I move !! *ponders* could give them away in a competition of some sort hmmm......
Don't you need a convertor to run the sun monitors on a PC? they are not directly compatible as far as I am aware...
Matt... the only thing incompatible with Sun Monitors and VGA gfx card is the connector... sun AFAIK have a slightly DVI reminisant connecter... but you could build one for peanuts... so that's no problem
yeah spent a bit of today looking through some of our stores for converters, will try again later on, if theres no luck I'll just build one, thanks to eaterofpies I now know the pin configs.
