You won't be disappointed. Plug it on one of the gold SATA 3 on the MB without any other HDD, fresh install windows (it will be much faster also to install) and off you go (HDDs could be added later, black or gold connector won't be so relevant for those). You may think about optimizing a couple of things on Windows to keep speed for longer...
I ordered it yesterday afternoon about 3pm and got it about 15mins ago with free delivery. Can't fault that for service.
No you cannot no. Once installed you will need to redirect all My folders to a new location your bigger HDD, or you will fill up the SSD in no time at all. Couple of links to show you if you do not already know how. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/redirect-folder-new-location#1TC=windows-7 http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html
here's a guide about how to optimize parameters on W7 http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19568143
Thanks for the links, I will check them out. Just fitted the SSD, about 10mins to instal W7. Shut down and restart took 10secs. Brilliant!
Welcome to the wonderful world of SSDs. You'll find now that any PC you use that doesn't have one will feel as slow as hell
Yes indeed, I have another PC that I thought was fairly fast. Now realize Noah had a better one in his Ark Still not exactly sure what to put on the SSD and what to put on the HDD.
Operating system and programs you use including browser and browser chache --> SSD download, music, movies, any sort of documents --> HDD
If I had known how good they are I would have bought a bigger one. Can I clone my HDD with all my programs etc straight onto this, I did a clean instal on the HDD a few days ago so it is not cluttered up with junk.
fresh install is always better... plus if you have the install files downloaded on HDD it takes few seconds to install on SSD.
Thanks, I have done a fresh instal on the SSD but do not really want to download all the programs or updates again if a clone would do it but I am happy to follow the advice that I am getting here.
Just put your OS and programs onto the SSD. Everything else, Documents, pictures, films and music goes on to a bigger hard drive, Move all the My folders over to the HDD which means that everything that goes into these folders will automatically be moved off the SSD and stored on your bigger HDD. I have around 50 programs and the operating system on my SSD and still have just over half the drive free.
Just as an aside, I remember getting my first 1GB hard drive and my techie neighbour telling me that I would never fill that up if I lived to be a hundred
Tosh, I have two, with one being a back up and a 1.5TB drive. I used to think that I would never fill up an 80GB drive but have found in reality that was quite easy if you store loads of music, films ,pictures and personal documents. Oh and the 1.5TB is for my large collection of games.
And it was about 15 year ago that I thought that I would never fill an 80Gb drive. I have just stuck my toe in the water that is DDLR photography and whilst learning it's dark arts I have an every increasing folder of poorly taken images.
for me it is some sort of upgrade bell: once I get to 70% of the storage it is time to get a new machine. worked for 420MB, 13.6GB, 60GB, 320GB and 1TB!
