Just plug it into the molex and it'll work by itself - the MoBo just gives it something to do, not actually control the mechanism for opening/closing...

Welcome to the boards btw. :)

mod the tray so that when it comed out, it had an expanding cup holder, kinda like the ones on those chairs that come in a bag. and ya, reinforce it so it can hold your biggest cup.

connecting it strait to the molex does not work, I tried it. If it does then I don't know what happened. Let me know if I'm just a moron.

You need to short the green and black wires on the ATX connector. Pins 9 and 14 if I recall.

    1. Stick one end of a short length of wire into any of the slots that have a black wire
    2. Stick the other end of said wire into the slot leading to the green wire

That is to turn the PSU on, if it is on already, it still may not work,

Neither of my drives will open or close with just the power connection.

wow, what happen to the good ol' days when you put the cup on the table:confused:
    :D
brings to mind those horror tech stories, cup holder is broken, floppy drive would not read credit card, etc. etc.

Alternatively of course, you could use the emergency eject hole on the CDROM. Most CDROM's should have a small hole in the front of them; just straighten a paperclip out and shove it in there. The drive doesn't even need to be powered up, it'll still open the drawer. Of course, it's a bit ghetto, and a pain in the ass not to be able to use the button, but hey, if nothing else works :)

I remember those, cant remember the interface name though. I think Pioneer used to make on of the popular models.
