Hi, i've been following you for quite some time now. Great site. Since xmas is near i was thinking of getting a new pc, and after the "think" time now it's time to go and get as much advice as possible to avoid money waste. Im not really going to overclock anything, use is gaming/internet. What i've come up with is Case: Thermaltake V9 (this has already been bought so i cant change it) PSU: Corsair HX520 modular psu, 520 watt MB: Gigabyte EP43-DS3L CPU: Intel Core2Duo E8500 boxed Cooler: AC Freezer 7 Pro RAM: Corsair Twin2x 800mhz CL5 2x2giga ddr2 GPU: Gainward HD4850 golden sample 512mega HDD: 160gb maxtor 7200rpm generic dvd burner Samsung T200 20" monitor i can get this for about 765 euro, 680gbp what do you think? thanks
If you're on a budget and not bothered about overclocking, reduce the PSU to a non-modular VX450 and use the stock HSF. I'd go for a bigger hard drive, a WD 320Gb at least, not much more money. I'd also suggest the cheaper E8400, even the E8200, and lightly overclock it to 3.2GHz or so.
looks great, i cant see much wrong with it. Well-balanced, VGA not overpowered for screen like most people do, great performance parts all around. If it were my build (and this is purely personal) i'd get the e8400 and a standard 4850. The performance difference is hardly noticable, but you will save enough money to get a Samsung 640, 750 or even 1000 GB. You will notice that difference a lot more then the slightly lower performance. And it takes only 5 minutes to overclock the processor, if you ever need it.
thanks for the cpu ok for the e8400. the vga is now a gainward hd4850 (not gs) which is the cheapest in the store at 135euro for the psu, i'd prefer modular since being this my first build i really want less cable as possible i looked at the vx450 but it has only one pci-e 6pin connector, so i added in a Enermax Liberty DXX 400watt, is it good? i added a 320gb hdd and removed the cpu cooler. i'm now at 535euro for the pc + 175 for the monitor, 710 euro ~ 630gbp
Gh0stdrag0n is right, keep the HX520, you will like it Other then that, i'd say you are ready to press the big "order" button. Merry Christmas!
It is a very good PSU, but if you really want modular the Seasonic M12-II-430W is just as good, well-cabled, plenty big enough, and cheaper.
