In my current uni comp class, besides all the boring-as-hell bookwork, there's a project assignment (which I just found out aobut today, two days before the final when it needs to be turned in). The assignment was one of 16 things. This one immediately jumped out: 13. Configure an "ideal" computer system for each of the following users: a power user, a home user and a small Internet web design business. Include brands, hardware choices, prices, etc. Justify your decisions. That's too damn easy for a 1337 person such as I. In about an hour and a half, here's how crazy I got (all prices from Newegg, * means out of stock, really an indicator for me to add this item up manually): Subject 1: Power User CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz C-stepping - $396 Motherboard: Abit IC7-G MAX2 - $165 Memory: Corsair XMS 2x512mb PC4000 DDR SDRAM - $340 Video Card: Asus Radeon 9800XT VIVO - $500 Sound Card: M-Audio Revolution 7.1 - $90 Hard Drive 1: Western Digital 36 GB SATA Raptor - $128 RAID Array: 2x Western Digital 200 GB SATA in RAID 1 - $380 DVD Burner: Sony DRU510A DVD±RW - $172.50 CD/DVD Combo: Samsung SM-352BRNS 52x24x52x16 - $60 USB Drive: Kingston 256mb Data Traveler - $92 *TV Tuner: ATI TV Wonder Pro Remote Edition - $95 *Case: Antec Sonata w/ 380w PSU - $96 CPU Heatsink: Thermalright SP-94 ? $48 *CPU Fan: Panaflo FBA09A12H 92mm fan - $11 Speakers: Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra - $360 Headphones: Plantronics Audio .90 - $23 Keyboard - Logitech Elite Keyboard - $29 *Mouse - Logitech MX700 - $50 *Monitor - Sony CPD-G520 - $682 Miscellaneous: SATA Power converter - $3 4?SATA Date cable - $5 Total: 3597.95 + shipping Subject 2: Home User CPU: AMD Barton XP 2500+ OEM - $85 Motherboard: Shuttle SN45G barebones - $255 RAM: 2x256mb Kingston Value Series PC2700 DDR - $90 Video Card: onboard Sound Card: onboard Hard Drive: Seagate 80 GB 7200 RPM IDE - $71 CD/DVD Combo: Samsung SM-352BRNS 52x24x52x16 - $60 Case: included Power Supply: included CPU Heatsink: included Headphones: Plantronics Audio .90 - $23 Speakers: Logitech Z-340 - $40 Input - Logitech Optical Desktop (KB/Mouse combo) - $31 Monitor: Viewsonic E70F+SB 17? In short, power user is the do-just-about-everything rig, home user is small, unobtrusive and quiet, and web designer has multi-monitor for maximum workspace, low noise, and loads of RAM for multitasking. Feel free to comment on my choices, but I'm not changing a damn thing since I don't care.
just wait until you get an assignment that you have trouble with. you'll curse the day you moaned (/showed off?) that your course was too damned easy. complacency is foolish.
wow, wish we had to do stuff like that on my a-level course. Even better if they gave us the funds to make the theory into a practical
you forgot to include the custom mods for the power user. Ie add an ammo box, 30 LED's, Military style switches etc etc, then use Zap's Ammo PC as a finished example!
i swear there were more posts in this thread, including one of mine, what happened to it?(it meaning the thread, not my post)
we had some large problems, there was a thread explaining this but it got out of hand so i moved it out of here Basically, the forums had to be restored to a backup taken on wednesday.
