Ok, ive got the wonders of a mastercard and i need to buy a plane ticket for £541. Unfortunatly i have a limit of £500 (which they wont increase as im a blooming student).

So im thinking if i funnel in £100 of my money into the card, ill have £100 worth of my money on it. Therefore allowing me to buy somthing worth £600.

(£100 of my money + £500 credit limit)

Is that going to work or are they going to tell me to sod off?

Many thanks for those who helped.

Ring them up and ask. The actual credit limit certainly comes down to reflect what you already owe, but I've never been in a position where they owe me money. :D

Note they don't tell you to sod off if you exceed your credit limit, they fine you money.

yeah you can overpay on a card. my dad was in that situation once as he just kept paying a large fixed amount every month.so you should still be able to do it now

Yea i tried asking to increase it before and they sent be a letter saying that it wasnt possbile. Ive always paied it off completely so ive never been in trouble with it.

That was my thinking... make them owe me money and then use that to effectivly boost the limit (temporarily).

Can't you just pay the £500 on teh credit card and the other £40 in hand or on a debit/ bank card ?

unfortunatly BA dont allow that. they only take credit cards. I would have gone with KLM (well NWAs over in canada) but they require that the card is registered in Canada which it most certianly isnt!

Ill see what goes on with this and hopefully itll work just dandy.

ring the credit card company, and tell them your position, if they say no, get another credit card after telling the first to sod off, 99% saying you will take your custom else were works wonders

I absolutely believe u can load your credit card with extra cash. Go to the bank tell that to them. Ask them can I add extra 100 punds to my card. I did that once for a big purcahse which exceeded my limit. Anyway I am with AIB I think most banks do that now.

I'm unemployed, they gave me a VISA with 1250euro limit on it.. it's free aswell (first year). I actually could set the limit myself, but 1250 is the standard limit so I left it at that.

In your case I would go ask my bank for a 50£ raise on my card. Explain the situation..

    Hope it works out,
    L

Banks will usually increase any limit if you explain things. If it gets to a stalemate just ask to speak to a supervisor and threaten to close the account and they usually sort it out. Good luck

You will need them to raise your limit. You cant put the extra on there and use the £600 (£100 of my money + £500 credit limit). At least the was the experience of one of my friends when he tried to do that to order a computer once. So at very least, give your credit card company a call and make sure it will be ok first.

With my credit cad I can do it. I wanted a credit card to order stuff off of the net, with the lowest possible limit, I asked if I could buy something over the limit by adding extra funds and it was fine.
