Help mehhhhhhh I gave in and bought some rounded IDE cables from Maplin. Installed them, hit the power and.... i get 'beep-beep....beep' and the message "Sec Slave Drive ATAPI Incompatible" So i went into the BIOS to check that it was seeing everything and... Primary Master: Not Installed Primary Slave: Not Installed (Incidentally, my SecMast (WD800JB) and SecSlave (DVD-ROM) were 'seen' fine in the BIOS.... I'ma go try and put my old cables back in...anyone got any more ideas? *n
things to check.... 1. the hds are on the primary channel and the jumpers are set accordingly plus having the no.1 hd on the first plug wouldnt hurt either 2. have the cdroms on the secondary channel, again checking the jumpers and cable select 3. reseat all the cables 4. go and get new cables hope that helps
Personally I prefer having my CD-RWs as slaves to my HDDs, so I have one of each on each channel. Was better for on the fly copying before burnproof drives With my new case however, the cables are too short
Just switched back to my old cables. the SecSlave problem has disappeared. Still not detecting IDE1 What else can I do? Jumpers were not changed (I re-checked them), cables are seated securely. Gonna try HDDs on IDE1 and Opticals on IDE2 now :/ *n
No I didn't. Just tried that and now SecMas has disappeared gonna try setting my boot HDD to secMas :/ *n
Got IDE1 running OK... Connected at 9.6K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Is off to look for a driver Disc and attempt his attack on IDE2* *n
you could have fried the controller for the secondary... but i doubt it somehow.... good luck with it anyhow...
Everything's tickety-boo.... ....exceeeeeepppppt... My second HDD isn't showing *goes off to fiddle with things* ...again *n
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28414 I've just lost about 4 albums worth of my own songs (ok they were never meant for anyone else to hear but still...)... The coursework for all three of my A level courses (which I'm now going to fail...) more than 12,000 Ogg Vorbis files (I can re-rip those...) How do I go about RMAing this or should I try and reformat it? *n
I had the same problem when I first got my rounded cables, the problem was fixed when I reset the motherboard battery and cleared the cmos.
i wouldn't RMA it just yet... if you've got the money to spend go to a data recovery speciallist, such as Vogon (if you want the number IM me) your uni may give you a dispensation if you can prove that you are unable to hand the work in for this reason and they may even pay for you to have the work recovered... well I hope you manage to recover it... maybe it's just a glitch
My RAID setup refuses to run with rounded cables, so I only run my JB drive and CD/DVD drives with the rounded ones... I just do some clever stuff to hide the flat ones.
Any chance of putting your drive in a friends computer, hopefully someone with a burner? I'm nice like that and have a hot-swap hd bay for emergencies like this.
I've tried it in other PCs - still no luck I'm poor, I don't have the £500 (plus) to get data recovered. I'm not at uni...I'm at college. I'll try the battery/CMOS thing - anyone got a guide for it? *n
and all you did was change the cables nothing else?? have you checked the cables themselves, if there dodgy at all?? what is the drive, ie make n spec??
Same thing happens with old cables & with new with cables switched round. Western Digital WD800JB (80GB, 8MB cache) *n
