After many years of loyal service my R9 290x has decided to die before my xmas break. Looking online people seem to suggest a rx 580 would be a good value replacement. I game at 1080p and budget is £200 ish Thanks
That's probably your best bet, yeah. You can get second hand ones for a lot cheaper ... might be worth looking into.
I had a 580 for a few months, very decent for the money, even moreso now. Yeah i'd plump for an 8gb if I was looking for a £200 gpu.
Taking the ish into account and assuming +/- 10%, the 6GB 1060 can be had for £220 at current prices - imo it's the better card thanks to being more power efficient than the 580 for the fractionally better performance it offers. Wouldn't go with the 3GB model though under any circumstances for 1080p.
Can’t go wrong with the RX580, especially with the games. It makes the 1060 6GB seem like a poor value proposition.
£190 for an 8gb 580 (with 2 free games like TMDD says) - seems better value to me than a 1060 6gb at the moment. Edit: saying that look out for bargains. I posted a link the other day for an EVGA 6gb 1060 that came with a free EVGA PSU for 200 quid so there are some about.
