just a really quick survey ... this may decide my CPU purchase. in your oppinion and general technical opinion which CPU would be better for a gaming rig? (and keeping in mind that i will not be overclocking) AMD 64... http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-426&depa=0 INTEL P4 @ 3.4 GHZ W/HT...(my pick) http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=19-116-168&depa=0 THNX (*XERO*)
The A64, although 939 versions are round the corner. Saying that, i use a P4 and its perfectly fine for games, tis probably a pinch of salt either way.
i think someone was a bit hasty with the submit button the 3400+ will be better for pure gaming and the P4 would be better for general running of things other than games but they would both toast tbh you woundt notice a difference between these processors and the 3.2 or 3200+ which are half the price and keep in mind that upgrade path for either will be *very* limited
like a matter of days really EDIT: im just going to stop posting now since everyone is beating me to it
dude, youve waited this long it wont make much of a difference to wait longer but the a64 does have twice the l2...
Are they pricey? Yes. ($500-$780 for the 3800+) Is the price worth it and are they good performers? Well, until Bit is allowed to show us their results, we must wait and find out. Oh PLEASE expire soon you stupid NDA!
they are expensive. $550 for the cheapest socket 939 chip, the athlon 64 3500+, though I'd imagine they'll follow up with some cheaper ones fairly soon. Performance will be very good though, and you could upgrade to a high clock FX chip a while later for a real speed boost. 8-ball
If you know the performance is very good because you have seen it, wouldnt that technically be a violation of the NDA?
no because he's not a member of the press and didn't sign an NDA. It's classed as a rumour rather than a breach of NDA - there's been a review out in french for about a week and a half now, but I can't discuss that because I'm under NDA
The review was on x86-secret. The site is now down with cover letter explaining the situation (in french). I think this bit says it all. "Seul petit désagrément, de telles relations de confiances nous forcerons désormais à respecter nos engagements en matière de NDA et autres embargos. L'indépendance est à ce prix !" Don't really need to be able to understand french. 8-ball
