I'm writing this on the house laptop that is on the same internet connection as my desktop.

Weds night, Desktop working fine online.

Thursday morning, Desktop connects to the internet via ethernet for around 5 minutes then loses my connection.

I disabled my lan connection and enabled the wireless connection in my desktop, it has limited connection speeds (currently shows 36mbps).

However even though the wireless is connected it won't display any webpages.

Intially i had both using static i.p addresses but switched to dynamic to see if it fixed my problem.... it didn't.

I've pinged my router and it times out.

I've pinged my own i.p but it doesn't even loop just times out. I believe this suggests the lan adapter has died but doesnt explain my wireless problem.

My wireless is a seperate PCI card, My lan is on my motherboard.

As you can see from me posting, the network appears to be working fine.

    Suggestions???

    aB

EDIT: Suffered a BSOD just now :(

Have you tried re-instaling your chipset drivers?

Both LAN and PCI are controled through the southbridge.

Might also explain the BSOD... Did you catch any off the error message?

Just a thought as i had this problem with my brothers system and this fixed it : )

I haven't no, I know abit, but not enough to know to do that :p

I'll find out about those drivers and re-install them. The error message said that a process critical to the system was exited or terminated unexpectedly. I am getting the BSOD more frequently now.

    EDIT:

Right im being abit noob now, the chipsets are: Intel p965/g965 and the southbridge is Intel 82801HB/HR (ICH8/R) according to cpu-z that is. I tried to find the drivers i need but there are numerous different ones. Which do i need? :(

I know it talks about resume from standby, but putting the error into Microsoft support comes up with this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330100/en-us

    • For Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA) hard disks, configure your disk drive as master only. For Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disks, connect the hard disk cable to a master channel SATA connector on the motherboard.
    • Connect another device as a master, such as another disk drive or a CD drive or DVD drive.
    • Change your PATA cables, your SATA cable, or your IDE cable even if the cable does not appear worn.

    Otherwise:

    Run memtest.

Use the XP/Vista disk to boot into the recovery console, if you can, and run check disk. Type the following at the command prompt:
    chkdsk /r

Try removing excess hardware and start the machine with the bare minimum (one stick or RAM, one HDD, graphics card etc.)

Also, a list of stop errors:
