This is neat, and the easiest way I've found to play the original Diablo on Linux: https://d07riv.github.io/diabloweb/ Runs the game in-browser. Got it running in Firefox here, works great! The only catch: I fed it the MPQ from my GOG copy, which *should* be Hellfire-patched... but it doesn't seem to be. No monk class, no running in town. Not sure why.
Wanted Hellfire, so I've switched to DevilutionX for a bit of native fun. It's aces. You can run the game at 1440p (or higher, if you've got a higher-res monitor) with or without zoom. Even lets you toggle a bunch of stuff on and off, like being able to run in town Hellfire-style even while playing the unexpanded Diablo.
