That doesn't really make sense, that's Windows for you though I suppose, give me a few days and I'll see what i can do.

wow, nice guide, I've been hoarding blue LED's with plans to have a graphic equaliser type thing in the front of my case using a kit from maplin connected to an audio output. But this looks to be a much more useful, can't wait for a version with more LED's.
(ps, stupid newb question, if a parallel port has 25 pins, why are you limited to 8 led's, is it that only 8 pins are used for signal and the rest are power or whatever?)

The port has 8 data lines, designed for transmitting one byte of data at a time. 8 of the pins are just ground and some are inputs, however, there are 4 additional "status register" output lines, but they are more complex to access, but 12 LEDs with no additional complex circutry is in theory possible and i'll start codign the software to access them after i've got these problems with some XP machines sorted out. :thumb:

one little warning again, i am sure i've posted this before somewhere on the electronics forum, but be very careful.

some old motherboards, especually the old ones with overdrive sockets can't source/sink more than 2.4ma.

a hex buffer would be a simple 40pence solution, that would seriously reduce the risk, and allow more current with safety.

True but with your average LED you're only looking at a ~1.3mA current here.

Strangely enough it seems to work now. This is version 1.6.0.1.

Seems like a tidy bit of software, now i have to find me a parallel connector so i can try it... Cheers! :hip:

Having a problem when running. XP Pro tells me it's the sysmon.ocx file. Can give a screenshot if needed.

    Yes it does!

You need to connect the LED's Annode (+) to pin 2 - 9. If it isn't the correct way round the LED wont light.
