Just got and installed a digital doc 5 by macpower.. this thing is hella annoying, the temp updates constantly thus the fans are constantly cycling on and off and on, its more friggin annoying then them all screaming constantly.. anyone have any ideas how I can get around this?
If not, anyone wanna buy it off me? :)

oy! a hammer? I'm about to see how many times it will bounce when I drop it out of a 6th story window... I already desoldered the peizo beeper in it, so thats not so bad, but i still think
whirr - quiet - whirr - quiet - whirr - quiet is worse then whirr - whirr- whirr- whirr- whirr- etc..

Not sure if this would work, but the dig-doc put's 12v to the fans? Why not (somehow - just sugesting ideas!) - wire them up in so they have a constant 7v to them and digidoc boosts it to 12v or something? Bit like an automatic 7v/12v baybus type of thing...then the noise should be much lower and the fans given a boost when temps get too high.......

hrmm thats a pretty good idea actually.. granted I'm not great with this kinda thing, but do ya think supplyin voltage to a set of terminals thats on the doc that are off hurt the doc? sounds like a job for mr. diode, but can a diode carry enough juice to power a fan? any takers? :)

    Haven't thought of that..

how about just connecting the fans to the 5V from the PSU as well as the DD5 ?

Use the 12V output to the fans to turn on a optoisolator (neater than a relay) to connect the fans to the 0V or 5V line to switch them, connect the output to the first optoisolator, then NOT it using an inverter and connect it to the second optoisolator

you could of course use a relay instead
