Windows Direct X not installing?

My friend's World Of Warcraft randomly stopped working. He hadn't played for a while (Yet made no system changes in this time) and got an error saying "World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D Accelleration. Please make sure DirectX 9.0c is installed and your video drivers are up to date." He tried updating his video drivers and reinstalling directx...nothing happened...

He reformatted his whole computer, and tried again...same message. He says when he tries to install DX it says "installation complete" instantly, but it didn't actually install anything... Anyone know the issue here?

 

installing instantly means its already installed.

goto display -> settings -> advanced -> trouble shot. make sure the slider is all the way to the right.

 

I realise v9.0c is mentioned in the error message... but what version of DirectX did your friend try installing?

Also... has he installed SP2 and all the additional/newer updates from the Windows Update site?

 

start --> run --> type "services.msc" --> [ENTER] --> cryptographic services --> if it's set to manual, then right click and then click "Start Service". If not, right click and go into properties and go into the dropdown menu and set the service to manual. Then apply and close. Right click --> start service. After that, give it another go. As mentioned before, if you have SP2, you already have 9.0c

 

try the simple way - reinstall it .
