Apple disk repair and lost settings?

    Hi guys
    my MBP failed the disk verification in diskutility and when I repaired it (boot off
    OSX disk and running disk util) I lost alot of settings!! eg. some of my widgets are missing, lost alot of personalised settings, and even firefox bookmarks!!!

    has anyone experienced this before?
    Should I worry about it happening again?
