A quick search online tells me it's a recovery tool, but it's using 13GB of my SSD's poultry 112GB. Is it important or can I format it? Can I at least shrink it? Space is at a premium to be honest, could I insert a 32GB SD card and move the partition on to that to conserve SSD space for applications?

I can't find an answer to these questions online, thought I'd ask here. (SSD noob).

    Thanks

Likely the boot files are there, so if you delete it you will have to repair. I don't know what other repercussions it might have besides not being able to use the recovery options without install media. You can force it to not be created at install by installing onto a disk with only one partition that already has the boot flag active. I would probably go that way as it is likely to be quicker and less fussy.
