I think it's because it's supposed to be computer controlled. The mouse is controlling the pitch of a camera and the rudder, while the keys are simple move commands for the robotics - forward, backwards, left, right, up, and down. Basically it's not a helicopter, it's a flying robot. *insert robot emote here* (A helicopter is yaw / pitch / roll / collective)
But UAV's are basically pilotless aircraft - all the control avionics are the same, and remote ops fly them like aircraft. Why make it different? Variety is the spice of life I s'pose.
I have always played with invert mouse as well and I am proud to be different I have to admit however that when I started BC2 for the first time I was afraid it didn't have the invert setting... y'know, console port and all ...
I've never played inverted, doesn't feel right at all, console or pc. I'd actually never come across anyone who inverted until this very afternoon, I was talking to a girl in work who's just started gaming (PS3) and she inverts on the controller. She said it was because she started on 3rd person games, for which the controls are naturally inverted (if you think about it) and this just carried over to FPS's for her. I thought that made a lot of sense, I've honestly never noticed the difference in control between the likes of GTA and Crysis before but sure enough...
^This. And actually I do play inverted when flying (although I selected the "No I don't play inverted" option) but that's usually the default so that's probably why I didn't think of it.
I wonder if it makes a difference to the time it takes for the brain to react, it would make for an interesting experiment in reaction times. btw, for flight sims I push down on the keyboard to go up, I don't invert the mouse because I tend not to use the mouse.
There's a definite point in time for me when I got hooked on gaming with an inverted mouse. I refer to the time before as pre-Terminator: Future Shock and the time after as (who'd have guessed) post-Terminator: Future Shock. That game got me used to inverting my mouse to the point where I absolutely cannot play otherwise. This just ruined Beyond Good and Evil for me because of its inability to invert the mouse.
firstly i have to invert everything, due to it making more sense for my brain as i view the screen as a pivot point like you would a bi-pod on the barrel and will do this until VR comes along properly secondly all the UAVs used by the british army are flow with a 360 controller
I don't invert on either. My mate always inverts on console but not on pc. If we have turns playing COD, we always set off then instantly look at the sky or the ground... not cool.
