Hey all, I have an interesting issue. A system I built for someone uses one of those awesome dual joystick arcade controllers. The issue at hand here is this controller does not work without a ps/2 keyboard connected (it passes through the signal). Here's my question. Without plugging in a keyboard, can I build a dummy circuit that will fool the computer into thinking a keyboard is attached? This may turn out to be easy, or way hard, I don't know. If need be I'm just going to pull the circuit board out of my spare keyboard, but I'd prefer not to if at all possible.
err, cant you just take the controller board out of a keyboard, and just use that, it would certianly make the computer think that a keyboard was plugged in..., thatd be my first suggestion without knowing more about what you need. cheers, Warrior_Rocker
If its in an arcade cabinit leave it connected But just remove the controller from a cheep keyboard and stick in a project box.
yeah, go to your local tip, scavange a keyboard and use the control from that. or better still, put a keyboard into/onto your arcade machine incase of setup issus
Yay for people who don't read the post and then flame others for double/triple posting. Maybe if you read his post you would have noticed this:
funny stuff Isotopian: What OS are you using? If it's Linux, then disabling the 'check for keyboard' feature in BIOS would be the first thing to check. After that, disabling APM seems like one solution. Found that on the first page of Google results. If it's Windows, I'm not sure I've heard of it working without a keyboard.
Id imagine you could take apart the keyboard, look of you need any resistance and get a ps2 to usb adaptor, dissect it and jump em all.
Your better of with one tucked away. We were saying that thats probubly the best way to do it. But you realy should try GOOGLE because you then whould of found http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade.htm USE SEARCH AND GOOGLE BEFORE POSTING STUPID THREADS.
Personally I put a wireless reciever in mine, purely for neatness and ease of setup, however mine uses a j-pac and passthrough isn't required just optional.
Perhaps I didn't make myself perfectly clear. The problem is not with the OS, it's the joystick itself that requires the keyboard. It's a Hasbro HotRod SE (in fact, that same one that is in the first link on the website you so thoughtfully recomended. The Hotrod has a built in keyboard kinda circuit which generates a keystroke for every button push. It simply doesn't work without a keyboard hooked up. I think I'm gonna bust out my trusty multimeter and see if I can figure out something. Otherwise, I'll just go with the keyboard circuit. And AJB2K3? Please use proper grammar and spell correctly before calling me stupid. Then I might think about it.
some people just like to consider themselves better than others. i've never figured out what to do with them.
Perhaps you should do researce first cus not everyone is able to easly pass the exam in ther native language!!! Yes but when that help is ruddly thrown back at you is realy get on peoples nerves.
..Sorry for being a nosey parker...but I can understand what both parties are saying or suggesting ...BUT... I would rather trust the WISE BIT-TECH MODDERS suggestions/answers than Googles......The Boys...oops...and Girls over here are modder and in some weird but wonderfull way we are like brother & Suster of the modding world .......So please play nice.......
We like to trust the answers we get here rather than research on google or w/e Sorry: double clicked reply on accident, bit tech is running really fast, so sorry for mirror post
