Ok... So I spoil my kids and mrs Pflumingo... Heres some proof.

I have had this done for more than a year but I haven't posted pics of it till now... but here goes (Sorry, things were taken at night, but most turned out OK)

The Main Screen (for the kids in the back)
*click for full resolution, but My B/W up is only 128k *

    That's a VP140 Viewsonic, roof mounted---Like this

When playing it looks kinda like this (dark out, not so great pics...) only clearer...

and the missus gets this one:

Sourced by DVD (indash) PC (Briefcase in the boot) or this VCR
    [IMG]

Plus we tag along the PS2 and Xbox, and the kids can play games while mom watches movies or visaversa... Fully switchable, and selectable... Sound is via the stereo, or via wireless headsets for the kiddies or mom, whichever is selected...

    It's running on a 1000W inverter (12VDC-110VAC)
Video goes through a Cheesebox to convert to SVGA.

Whatcha think? are my kids spoiled or what?
(Still working on proper mounting of the front panel... haven't found what I wanna do yet, and it works well as it is)

    lol very james bond...
if you tidy the wires up then it will look even better.

have you considered putting the vcr / dvd in the glove compartment? may involve a bit of dremel work but then you'd be able change the disks on the move and it would give over boot space...

the DVD is in dash, and the VCR is a bit big, but I have thought of putting the vcr in the center console, if I were to spend some money and get a smaller one...
BTW/ Total investment on this "mod" - 80 bucks for the 5" TFT in the front, and $6.50 in Aluminum to mount the "scrap" 14"TFT... all other parts I had "lying around"

Yes , ur kids are SPOILED !! Spoiled rotten :)

When i was little and had to sit true a long drive (on holiday or something) , I was forced to use my Imagination, and to look out the window and see the world .. well the highways of the world..

But it looks damn cool though..

I like that smaller LCD , that would look great in my Case :D

Well, In our case, in the winter when we drive to their grandparents house, the only scenery is white, white, white... SNOW SNOW SNOW... and a 4 and 7 year old do well for about 2 hours... The problem is the trip's a good 6 1/2 hours... It'd be like driving from london to the south of france... LONG trip.

anyways, I like to sit in the back sometimes and watch while the wife drives...

It's the best theatre we have.*

EDIT: *(other than the 56"sony 7.1 surround system in our living room)

You run all this from your car battery? How does it cope?

Actually the power draw is fairly small, The 14" LCD only draws 15W, the VCR draws 20W, The briefcase PC I use in it (for GPS/Streets and trips and MP3's) draws up to 200, the PS2 draws 70 and the xbox draws 100. In total, I'm still at only 405W max... the stereo has a 400Wrms Amp, all other accessories draw about another 200, so 1000W in total, about.. or around 83.3 A
My battery is a 1200CCA (cold crankin amps) and my alterator is a 245A alternator... I think it'll handle it.

THey better bring a torch, a hacksaw, or a set of wrenches.. That thing isn't exactly easy to remove, Plus I live in a smaller city, and crime isn't much of a problem... Plus I have the vehicle locked all the time, plus the alarm systme, plus the lojack, plus, I'ts nearly impossible to see during the day because it is so hi, and the windows are tinted dark...

If they steal it, They probably want it worse than me.

    Nice modding there Pflumingo.
What input does that 14" TFT take? s-vid? dvi? vga?
Btw really nice work on the tft mounting system on the roof. That is really smart, and if you made that yourself I applaud your skills :)

If the pics don't work, it's your work (or school) connection... It's on a non-standard port... 6680, instead of 80, so some proxies block that out... Sorry, all I can say is try to get somewhere you can get them, or... Maybe I'll email them to you... Ok, you twisted my arm enough...

and yes, I did make the mount myself, out of aluminum L and bar extrusions, Homedepot is my friend...

The big TFT takes S-video, composite, and XGA (1024x768 native) But it originally only took xga... Running through the scan doubler for TV functions...

Actually, I'm at home. I could try it at school tomorrow, though. (Would someone please e-mail them to me if it doesn't work?) :)
