It means plant vs zombies won't be available from steam in the near future. It'll be an Origin Exclusive.

"Plants vs. ZombEAz: NFL Lockout Edition" oh no! i hate those american football zombies.

well that sucks, Plants vs Zombie were an awesome game, hope they can keep up their casual games rather than create endless EA's mind numbing NFL or Dead Space rubbish.

Permit me a moment of cynicism, but I bet those sales targets that are talked about for the other $550 mil are unreasonably high...

That allows EA to do two things; not pay them more than a third what this deal is reported to cost, and second when sales targets are missed 'restructure' Popcap so that they obey more rigidly the instructions set out by EA.

Watch for news about Popcap staff being laid off en masse and forming a new dev house...

Not saying EA hasn't made some good games, but after what they did to Westwood Studios...

    Oh god no!

I love Popcap; been playing games like Rocket Mania and Zuma for longer than I can remember...

Now I am yet to see EA do anything but suck the life and soul out of everything it touches, I hope Popcap survives.

This has been rumoured for a while - from what I understand if it wasn't EA someone else would have done. Casual gaming is (as everyone knows) becoming huge, and all the big publishers want in. Popcap, being one of the biggest, were an obvious target.

I'm holding out on this one. True EA are big and greedy, but they've turned a bit of a corner recently when it comes to allowing developers a bit more free-scope on games and new projects.

Given how slick Popcap are, and how much of a hugely solid track record they have with churning out succesful games, I'd be amazed if EA tampered too much with them.

I imagine it'll be more of a ID Software/Bethesda relationship - EA publish the games, but leave 99% of the creative work to Popcap.

I never got into the Bejeweled series, just happy I've got both Peggles pre-takeover, although one of them was through Steam so we'll have to see if it will still work after this.

So sad to see EA just buying up great companies and turning them in to crap. It's been going on for a long time now and they have swallowed up some incredible companies and basically destroyed them. Sad to think that PopCap might end up the same way too. I have really enjoyed some of their games. Another one bites the dust..
