They always make a big deal about in their marketing. The standard for energy efficiency is '80+' which, as you can probably guess, means the PSU is more than 80% efficient. I'm sure I've seen claims of 85 and even 90 recently though.

The rating system is explained in the review for this PSU.

Depending on how important efficiency is compared with price, I would look at the Seasonic X series in 650w.

    Scan clicky

It's 80 plus Gold certified. Which is where it's at.

The recent PSU labs test in CPC said that the Seasonic X-650 89% efficient at 50% load and 90% efficient at 100% load. One of the most efficient PSU they have ever tested.

    80 Plus: 80%
    80 Plus Bronze: 82%
    80 Plus Silver: 85%
    80 Plus Gold: 87%
    from Wikipedia.

If you already have a 700W power supply, there is no reason to buy a more efficient supply for the sake of efficiency alone. The amount you spend on the new supply will far outweigh the amount you save in utilities for several years.

How much power will your pc be pulling through the psu?

OCZ have an 850W and a 1000W gold certified psu.

im running an enermax revolution in my file server. they're 85+ damn quiet and you'll never run out of SATA power connectors. im going with enermax again when i update my gaming rig soon. Might wait till those Modu87+ models are available.
