I just bought a Coolmax HD enclosure and a 160 GB SATA HD for it. Links: enclosure: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817146067 hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148105 My PC's mobo specs: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article222-page1.html I did everything the instructions said to do, and it appeared that the drivers were updated when I plugged the HD into the computer with USB and Firewire. The problem is that the HD doesn't show up in My Computer. The computer recognizes that the device is connected by showing the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the lower right-hand taskbar. Is there something really simple to fix this, like setting a drive letter to it?
Control panel -> admin tools -> computer management -> disk management. Should be an option to "import" (or simialr wording) the disk in there Might need to format/create a partition on it too
As Highlan3r said, right-click My Computer, click on Manage, click on Disk Management. It may even come up with a wizard asking what you want to do with the new disk. You want to initialise it but don't convert it. Then create a Primary partition on it.
Thank you guys a lot. I had to initialize it and then create a primary partition. Learn something new everyday.
