A conversation at work lead to us trying to create our own family mottos with google translate to get the Latin. The humor came when attempting to translate back into English. Mine: Ego instrumentum et irritum facient warantiam.Translation: I am a tool and make void the warranty.Original: I have a tool and will void the warranty. Anyone else care to share?
Don't have family motto but, perhaps it should be my signature. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum. Roughly translates as 'don't let the bastards grind you down.' (Norman Stanley Fletcher)
My dad's motto and his dad's before him. quisque eget vests et braccae Everyone needs vests and pants.
Closest one from my dad is: ut de itinere (Get out of the road - said normally as "Out the rud" - i.e. you're in my way so move it)
Ostium fenestram magis quam dabo tibi velis Originally, 'You'd make a better door than a window' Translated back, 'Opening the window will give you more than you' Always a popular one in our house, the youngest has a terrible habit of getting in the way of things. It's one I got from my grandma when my younger brother had a habit of getting in the way.
