Oooh...handbags! As much as I loved Firefly/Serenity, it should be left alone. The film pretty much tied off most of the loose ends (and killed off the characters who's backgrounds couldn't be explained in a short space of time). If it's independant from Fox/Universal, where the hell are they gonna get the cash from? I mean, the movie was a flop (from a box office pov), and I doubt that anyone other than die-hard fans would put hand in pocket and stump up some small change.
that doesnt mean that the movie has to be part of the storyline, they could continue right from where they left off. i personally would love to see a second season of firefly.
I'm not a hardcore fan or anything, but I know that there were 3 comic books produced that link the end of the series and the beginning of the film. tbh, I think the only way they could make a 2nd series is to set it before the 1st...which would be a bit pointless.

It shouldn't come back. As much as I love it, it will be crap if it does. The entire premise of the series was solved by the movie (except for a few unessential things).
