I've just ordered the parts for my first ever self build PC, and browsing some of the very informative posts in this forum, I can see that there are lots of little traps for the unwary when putting a PC together.

While I wait for the parts to arrive, I just thought I'd ask the more experienced builders here:

"What do you wish you'd known before you built your first PC?". Have you ever zapped a part with static, not pushed a cooler on properly, spread thermal paste all over the motherboard, etc, etc?

The parts I've ordered (from Scan's Today only offer) are:

Intel Core i5 2500K Unlocked Combo

Coolermaster CM 690 II Lite, Black, Mid Tower Case w/o PSU
    650W Coolermaster RS650-ACAAE3-UK GX, 80 PLUS, 85% Eff', SLI/CrossFire, , EPS 12V, 120mm Fan
    Intel Core i5 2500K Unlocked, 1155, Sdy Bridge, QuadCore, 3.3GHz, GPU 850Mhz, 6MB Cache, 95W, Retail
    MSI P67A-G45 (B3), Intel P67, S 1155, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 2133, Xfire, SATA 6Gb/s, SATA RAID, ATX
    1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9ms, NCQ
    8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.50V
    Pioneer DVR-S19LBK 24x DVD±R, 12x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, RAM x12, SATA, Black, Retail Labelflash

    plus
XFX HD 5770 AMD / ATI Graphics Card with IP-5X fan, Eyefinity, Single Slot - 1GB

Hoping this is everything I need (and that the Intel stock cooler isn't as scary to push on as people say...) It should be a big step up from our current PC (Athlon XP 2500 with a Radeon 9500)

    Mark
