Finally went over to firefox after i got a titch fed up with IE's little habit of crashing due to SP2. Just getting a feel for it now, but i'm mildly used to using it through linux. Nice browser, but it does seem to load pages slowly. By the way... where does it keep it's history, cookies and temp files?

I don't know if I'm just lucky or just buy & properly set up decent hardware. Never had stability problems with Win 95-OSR2, 98SE or XP-SP2 and IE.

MS bashers should just occasionally wonder if they're in the wrong. :nono:

Firefox keeps all user stuff in your profiles directory, under Docs & Settings\App Data\Moz\FF\profiles\squiggle\, cookies.txt, history.dat & bookmarks.html in the base level squiggle and temp files in the cache subdirectory.

Well my hardware is fine, and all was well up until i decided to install SP2 off of windows update... i cant uninstall it, i cant re-install the network version... sigh. I'll cope until my next format... 'tis my punishment for being lazy.

And who said i was an MS hater? i'm an occasional basher due to frustration.

slow browsing under X.... X is crap (sorry if u've had my rant before) it really isn't designed for desktops at all (even thou thats what 99.99997% of people use it for now) and its just ERGH. Its soooooooooo slow its un-true.

My old A7000 running RISC OS outperforms my dual necona running netbsd!
*nix ain't for desktops. its just not.

correction had linux on my spare, and yes browsing was slow, but downloads are still ******* fast (400 k/s on slow servers versus 220 roof in IE)

I've never had any stability problems either. And I will be sticking with IE simply because it loads faster and renders pages faster.

you can control how quickly FF renders.
though it's true IE loads faster.

I have tried all the speed tweaks for FF and I still find IE is faster.

I've already told you why it's faster in a previous thread, it's hardly a surprise. :)

What's cool though is MS are probably going to bring out something fairly decent in response to having a respectable chunk of their market taken from right under their nose. Competition = good. :thumb:

Well, you may be right about why it's faster. But I don't care about why it's faster, only the fact that it IS faster.

I find Firefox to be faster for general browsing, because it doesn't need to load the whole page inc graphics before it displays. So if you're only interested in the text (I.e. like most people), then it probably works out faster. I think everyone is forgetting the most important thing about Firefox - the extensions. You can customise it to act exactly how how want it to.

I am going to give FireFox another try in combination with adblock - with an open mind. If I find it to load the forums I browse normally faster, then I will switch to it. Atleast until IE comes up with an update that makes it faster.

Normally I always have FireFox installed on my PC just to visit some pages which I know will have some kind of spyware installed on it.

I'm using Firefox atm because my IE is screwed up (ie search bars that won't sod off etc), and althought it's nice to use and has handy add-ons, I still find it a pain when it comes to compatability....it handles some CSS wrong (www.gadgetshop.com for example) and doesn't do the job all the time when it comes to plugins (I can't access BBC online videos  ). There's my lil contribution! If anyone knows solutions then help is much appreciated
