Being perhaps the only person in the world to have never played Red Alert, I found a link on CVG where you can download it for free, without being chased by the lawyers http://www.ea.com/redalert/news-detail.jsp?id=62
EA allowed C&C Gold to be downloaded months before C&C 3 was released for free too, i guess they kinda realise that they can't really sell it to people considering it's age, so might as well allow it to be free, which is nice. Also, if your in the USA, and you pre-order it from through the link on the page, you can get RA2 for free as well, Bargin Sam
that was quite a nice thing to find out, i have all the copys of all C&C games boxed but i will link this onto my friends.
how did this not find its way onto Bit-Tech news? Lucky I found this post before it went too far into the archives. Just bought an eee pc 1000H so I've been looking for old low res games like this to put on it
that makes me want an eeePC even more now! I'm downloading this as it's been years since I played, I think I borrowed it off a mate.
I'm in love with it. I've put Final Fantasy 7 and 8, starcraft, ocarina of time and pod racer on too, it's awesome! Definitely get the 1000H though, I've done 50GB without breaking a sweat
I cant seem to get it to work, I get an error message saying: An privileged instruction was executed at address 005c7c14. Click on OK to terminate this application. And yes, that is the pop up boxes bad grammar, not mine. I'm looking into it now. Fake edit: Dos version works with no sound. second edit: sorted, had to change the compatibility mode to windows 95
Oh god this is going to suck hours out of my life. Thanks for the heads up. When I see things like this it makes me want to sell my laptop and buy an EEE or similar. I barely use my laptop for gaming, just surfing the net. Though I don't know if I could live without AOE 2 & 3 Lans, and also Sins of a solar empire over Lan has taken up so much of mine and my friends lives it unreal.
I'm using Vista home prem. 64-bit, and when trying to run setup in windows 95 compatibility mode, I get an error about the file being incompatible with the version of Windows I'm running, and telling me to check whether I need a 32-bit or 64-bit version of the software. Anyone else had better luck on x64? Edit: Happens no matter what compatibility mode I choose.. Edit edit: Just read this on the tutorial page - "64 Bit Users: Players have reported success installing the game using the Red Alert Setup Manager v0.98 tool."
