Talking of requiring hardware, I wish there was less of that in the world of VR, I wish they could enable to just run things side by side and let the user use home-made displays. But you don't even get a VR option when you don't connect a vive or oculus. And those open drivers like vireo are as effective as.. well you name something that is non effective, let's say as effective as 'the stabilizing influence of US politics and military intervention'. But all that is aside from the need for hardware to measure latency and such I guess. And with the trend now to 'cheat' in the headset hardware for missed frames and such I guess it isn't possible to use a software solution only when you want real data.
