Hi Guys, Just after a bit of info about gaming at this resolution? is it worth the upgrade from 1080p? im looking at grabbing a GTX970 soon and would like to make the most of it. Can anyone recommend a decent monitor for this resolution at a reasonable price? iv got about £250-300 to spend. Cheers
It is a noticeable upgrade, but less so when gaming - I've found it's more useful for productivity. To that end I use a 27" 1080p panel at home almost exclusively for gaming, and a 1440p panel for work. In terms of sharpness (PPI), a 27" panel at 1440p is roughly equivalent to a 20" panel at 1080p. A 30" panel at 1600p is equivalent to a 22" panel at 1080p. *Prepares for lectures about big pixels and using an OC'd GTX980 on a 1080p screen.*
I currently use a U2711, and I would agree with Shirty, it makes a bigger difference with work rather than play (in my opinion at least). Depends what kind of games you want to play, since all (I think) 1440p screens will be IPS so should look pretty darn good. Whereas if you're a twitch/fps gamer then maybe getting a 120hz+ monitor would be more your thing.
Both Benq and Samsung are selling 32" 1440p monitors using an AU Optronics AMVA panel. http://tinyurl.com/qjvzwhb http://tinyurl.com/laoyjtz
Well having been playing around with the new DSR feature in the latest Nvidia drivers, games don't look that much different at 1440p to 1080p on my 24' Dell, maybe the screen size has something to do with it??. On something like a 32' Samsung 1440p screen it maybe a different matter and you really would notice the move up to 1440p. DSR 4K on the other hand...WOW!!!. On my 24' Dell, even with AA turned off, games look magnificent, and the step change in on screen detail is amazing.
Wow that DSR sounds promising, thanks Hustler. What GFX card are you running mate? Thanks for all your comments on this btw guys
Asus 970 Strix (awesome card BTW)..I don't think DSR is supported for Nvidia 5xx cards though, so you maybe out of luck trying that, you'll have to check to be sure though.
Cheers mate, think il get myself a 970 and go the DSR route rather than forking out for a new monitor + GPU. Thanks for your help
You could use supersampling, since it's a native option on those new cards; Instead of shelling out for a 1440p monitor.
2560x1440 then look no further than this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-167-SA&groupid=17&catid=1120
