    My nephew has asked me to build him a Gaming PC for specifcally for Battlefield 3 coming out.

    I thought about the following from Scan but is probably a little on the pricey side for him.

    PROCESSOR = Intel Core i5 2500K Unlocked, S1155, Sandy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.3GHz GPU 850Mhz 6MB Cache 95W Retail

    MOTHERBOARD = Asus P8Z68-V, Intel Z68, S 1155, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 2200(OC), SATA 6Gb/s, RAID, ATX, HDMI

    MEMORY = 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance Blue DDR3 PC3-12800(1600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.5V

    GPU = 1280MB Gainward GTX 570, 40nm, 3800MHz GDDR5, GPU 732MHz, Shader 1464MHz, 480 Cores, DL-DVI/mHDMI

    PSU = 650W PSU, Xclio , Modular, 80%Eff', 80 PLUS, SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, Quiet Fan, ATX

    HD = 2TB Samsung HD204UI Spinpoint F4EG, SATA 3Gb/s, 5400rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9ms, NCQ

    DVD = Pioneer DVR-S19LBK 24x DVD±R, 12x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, RAM x12, SATA, Black, Retail Labelflash

    CASE = XClio Touch 320 Full Black Mid Tower case with 2x120mm Blue LED Silent Fans w/o PSU

    It needs to be as cheap as possible as he is a student and I'll likely need to pay for a good chunk of it for his birthday. Say about £600 to £700 max

    Can you recommend a good gaming rig for less? That is a little future proof.

    Main uses of intended build: Gaming, General Student Uses
    Parts required: All
    Previous build information (list details of parts): None
    Monitor resolution: 1080P Full HD
    Storage requirements: 1GB +
    Will you be overclocking: yes/no (delete as required): Not Sure
    Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers):
    Extra information about desired system:

    The above is fine but just take cheaper options.
    4GB of RAM
    A GPU such as the 6870 or 460 second hand could be a good option
    Stick with stock intel cooler
    Cheapest P67 instead of Z68 mobo

    A £45 500W non moulder PSU
    You've chosen a 5400RPM media drive as the sole drive. Replace with 7200RPM 1TB.

    Your looking at roughly £450 for a system such as the above.
    LG 23" IPS screen £150
    +cost of windows 7

    Drop the board down to the MSI gd53

    Buy the ram from aria as you can get 8gb of muskin for under 40 quid.

    I would go for a 1tb samsung f3 as a drive.

    With the money you save swap the psu out for something like the 530watt bequite from scan and a better case.

    I'd use a 560 ti instead of the 570. Although if you fan squeeze out a 570 do it. I wouldn't recommend a 460 for 1080. I use one for 1680x1050 and it's being pushed, so yeah, at least 560 if not 560 ti. You can get ocz modxtreme psus for really cheap and they are good.

    a 500W PSU wont cope with a 570. I'd go for a quality PSU, like a modular Corsair and drop down to a 560Ti

    He's stated a £600 budget including monitor and windows.
    You need to be realistic.

    That is realistic if you don't want top of the range components, as a student you can USUALLY pick up windows 7 through uni/college for next to nothing. I know tn panels aren't favoured here but you could get a 22", windows and the mushkin for under 190. Leaving 400-500 for the rest, that is achievable.

    I wouldn't risk it, but thats just me, wouldn't trust a cheap and nasty PSU

    Thanks for the comments all.

    Should have been a little clearer. He already has a monitor etc and can get a copy of win 7 through Uni.

    This is basically for the base unit I'm looking into.

    law99 - Why the 560 ti instead of the 570? Does it perform better?
