    Hello
I'm gonna admit now that I don't have too much of an interest in cars, technology, etc.
But I am having a problem. My Dad is well into taking cars apart and putting them back together to make something else - his current project is, to date, made up of 3 different cars. Its just what he likes to do.
He also likes the "A Car Is Born" series.
I am struggling to find anything/ information on this kinda stuff and want to get him something cool for xmas that he'll appreciate - something to do with his cars, but have no idea where to look. I've tried various Google searches but to no avail!! Google is my Bible, but this time has not come up with the goods.
Anyone have any ideas, or know of any websites where i can order books/mags/boys-toys on this kinda thing?
Would appreciate any help (just please don't kick me off yet for signing up under false pretences!!! :worried:

Does he have a good tool storage? You may want to get a good quality unit like the ones you see in professional garages. I'm going to be getting one for my step-dad

I belive there is a proper sub-forum for this, but here goes...

Get him tools, everyone loves tools. :)
Assuming he doesn't have one, he need this. A "socketwrench" for bits.

(Ignore the long thingy, or get him both)

I apologise if this is in the wrong area - I did take a quick look around but wasn't too sure where this would fit - the modding part of the forum looked pretty scary and full of stuff I don't really understand.
Thanks for your ideas so far - much appreciated!

Ah the modding section is fun. :) Don't beat yourself up over the placement. If the mods disagree they'll just put it somewhere else...

Yup, GD is for random stuffs. People will pipe in, in the next few days :) If things don't fit we'll move them to where you should be more at home :)

This *might* do better in the motors forum seeing as it's car-specific, although we'll see how it fairs here first.

Why don't you just ask your dad what he needs??

If only it were that simple. If I ask him what he needs or wants, his usual response is that he doesn't know - nice and helpful. I'm so glad birthdays and xmas are only once each a year or I'd go mad trying to find something suitable.
Sorry again about posting in the wrong place!

Buying tools for a keen mechanic is like buying a monitor or graphics card for a geek. It's very easy to get something they'd never dream of buying themselves and it'll gather rust. Get a few things short-listed for his thoughts, or take him on a trip round the tool shop straight after Xmas to pick something. You can always give him some socks on the day.

Or go the cheesy way and get him a gift certificate to the tool store. It's a cop-out I know, but at least he is liable to get somthing he needs and can actually use.

yeah, i wouldnt buy him tools unless you also are into tools. Gift certificates are really nice. Unless you know specifically what he needs, it is pretty hard to buy tools for people.

I would say almost any snap-on tool would do the trick but they are expensive or the other option is a hand held multi tool like a leatherman
