Hi folks. I have just helped a mate build a rig based on the Gigabyte GA-K8VT800 PRO motherboard with a Athlon64 Newcastle 3000+. I have never dealt with this board before.

When building it I found it really weird that the manual for the motherboard insisted that the 1st HDD be connected to IDE1 on the motherboard and any CDROM to IDE2.

The 1st problem I am having is when posting it takes around 45-60 seconds to identify the Primary master a slave drives.

The 2nd problem I have is that it will not boot in to Windows unless it has a CD in the drive. It tries to boot from floppy 1st, then from CD, then from HDD. If there is not a CD inserted i.e. motherboard CD, then it will not boot. Obviously I have set the 1st boot device is HDD0.

    Any ideas.

Have you tried simply removing the CD-Drive or switching the two around? Sounds like a really weird one to me... Perhaps it's just throwing a wobbly, reset the CMOS?

First thing I suggested on the phone last night, had no effect.
