    Hey Guys,

I need some help trying to figure out what my problem might me.

Quick notes: My friend's young son was gifted a preowned gaming PC. She asked me to help him set it up. Upon inspection, I found that the previous owner had removed the CPU. The motherboard is an Asus B450M-A II (AM4) so I recommended the AMD Ryzen 5 5500, which she bought.

Soooo after the CPU comes in do I learn the this motherboard needs a BIOS update to make this CPU work. So, my bad?? I have no idea what CPU was previously installed.

CPU is installed, PC turns on, no picture. I know the XFX (RX580 Black Edition 8gb I believe) GPU works because I installed it in my PC and I got a display with it no problem. I tried installing an old R9 280x GPU I have stored away and same issue, no display on the monitor.

When the PC is turned off, my monitor will say "No Cable Connected" and when you turn the PC on the monitor will say "No Signal." So it is evident that the monitor is detecting something. I'm also testing both the HDMI and DVI ports. Same situation from both ports

Is the BIOS the cause of this problem? Am I just now learning about a 3 year old known problem and wasting all of yall's time? Or is the PCI-E slot dead?

I have hooked the PC up to a spare PSU I have, tried 3 DIMM slots for the 1stick of RAM it came with, tried booting without the RAM and without the hard drives, all in hopes of getting some sort of on screen error message, but no luck.

So, that's my situation. I guess this wasn't so quick but if you read it all, I appreciate you.
    Thanks for any advice/recommendations!

I think with that motherboard you may he able to flash the bios even without a CPU - you may want to check the manual.

450 motherboards needed flashing for the 5000 series.

E: Is there no picture at all times or is bios visible? Sorry, it's early my absorption of information is always a bit, well, useless at this time

As adidan has said, the board supports BIOS flashback which doesn't require access to the UEFI or anything on screen. You'll need a FAT32 formatted USB stick and the newest BIOS from here. Download and extract to the root of the USB stick, then pop it into the USB3.2 Gen 1 port under the PS/2 connector on the back panel (not the one directly below it, the one below that. The bottom one, if you will). You should then just need to hold the BIOS flashback button (top button above the DVI port) for three seconds and it should flash three times, indicating it has started flashback. It usually takes less than 10 minutes.

Full instructions are here, just in case I've missed something.

Edit: I did miss something. The BIOS download should come with a renaming tool, which renames the BIOS file correctly before you copy it onto your USB stick.

That should solve your issue with any luck.
