I built my new system last night a core i7. I think i have the leads in the right place etc. However when i connect my monitor to the powercolor 4870HD graphic card i get nothing on the display. i have connected the card to the pci-e x16 slot, however on the back of the card are 2 other connector sockets. i connected 1 of my PCI-E power cables to the back but nothing happen, do i need to connect 2 PCI-E power leads to the back? or none at all? Also the fan on the graphic card does not spin. where have i gone wrong?

    Thanks

You need to connect BOTH PCI-E connectors. :) Won't work at all without.

Thanks for the advise MM vR.

I'm going to be building my first rig soon, and this seems like a problem I would run into also, haha.

I have tried as stated above but still no luck the fan is not even spining and no display. i have tried with two PCI-E cables in the back of the card and also one.

I have put my old PCI card which works as its in my old computer but this did not bring anything on the monitor.

Could there be something i have done wrong on the motherboard a wrong place cable?

Just cleared the BIO's, by shorting the 2 pins, still the graphic card not working suppose a faulty graphic card.

You probably have something plugged in where you're not supposed to, I remember I plugged something in a socket called AC 97 and my system would boot at all.

Did you plug in the 8-pin motherboard connector? It's usually located in the left upper corner of the mobo, near the CPU socket, CPU VRMs and rear IO.

Maybe we could diagnose this better if we could see what was going on. Do you think you could post a picture of the inside of your computer as it is?

you need to use the both the 24pin and the 8pin power connections, i presume you mean the 8 pin power next to the CPU? if thats not plugged in there is your problem
