From the Scan specs section for the MSI HD7970.

    2 x DisplayPort
    1 x Dual Link DVI-I
    1 x HDMI

I seriously doubt you'll find a 7970 that doesn't have a Dual-Link DVI port, or any top end card for that matter.

I've got the 680 version and rest assured the card is bloody brilliant and dead silent to boot. I'd have no qualms recommending it.

The 670 F T W is a different card. The stock 680 cooler does an brilliant job of cooling the 670 quietly, and it exhausts all the heat to boot. Different :)

you can use displayport to support 120hz or higher than 1080p just depends on what monitor you upgrade to, pretty sure the dell 1400 & 1600p monitors have displayport inputs

New ones perhaps - older ones don't. My 30" Dell doesn't - although it is five years old.

had a read of this review and they had the same problem connecting there 30" monitor but got over it useing the mini displyport to hdmi adaptor that came with the lightning, also read that it comes with a active mini displayport to dvi adaptor but no mention of it in the review

Before I came to the forums for advice I was actually considering buying the R7970 Lightning but then the lack of dual-link DVI ports put me off.

I have the EVGA 680 Signature II. It's a fantasic cards and runs all that I throw at it. I also bought it with the future in mind as I plan on changing my screen next year.

One thing I will point out. The dual fan in the Signature II's does a great job of cooling the cards, but the heat is kicked out into the case rather than out the back. If your case doesn't have adequate cooling then beware.
