I just got back from best buy in Los Angeles. They had hafl life 2 on the shelf for $54.99. I suggest anyone who lives near a best buy go check it out and see if yours has it too. I know this should be in software but I wanted to reach the maximum amount of people. I'm gonna go play it now...
read an article yesterday on IGN about this... to get the game to run dont you need to run the CD-key through the steam client for authorization? If not, and you got the game working, please do post stories for those of us that are waiting till Tuesday
crap, you guys might be right. IM on disk 2 of installation right now. The first disk installed steam... I'll let you know if i am able to get a cd key EDIT: from the instructions taht came with it: "A Steam account is required to play half life 2" BUT, the cd key comes in the box (on the back of disk2 envelope) so i still have hope...
yep, you won't be able to play HL2 without internet access. Even if you purchase a hard copy from the store, the game still needs to download files from steam. lame... Oh btw, even though I can't play HL2, i DO get CS Source to hold me over till tuesday
Bahahahahaha. I paticularily liked the part when his hopes went up, then crashed miserably. I'm evil.
can anyone who has installed it already confirm how it's protected? my first thought was that it's essentially the preload files on a disc - you know, the encrypted GCF files.
Will you be able to buy a completely downloadable version? I.e. can I buy the key and then download the client? (Sorry, not been paying attention..)
Correct, you "pre-load" or downlaod the game and the second it becomes avaliable you can buy it (or actually, you can buy it now and it will be activated stright away when hl2 is released). You dont have a cd-key as such, but the fact you own hl2 is associated with your account. You can buy it entirely over the net, much cheaper, and you get more addons, i dont recomend buying a cd version, just get it through steam, its alot easier (even if you will have to let it downlaod, its worth the wait for the money saved and extra games given).
