hard drive help

    hello
    ok installing windows 2000 and it come up with saying can not format and says the drive maby errr *ucked "damaged" well anyway did a format in dos and it comes up with there is 3mb i think it was of bad secters

    is there any way of getting rid of them that will not damage my drive even more.

    But the drive is still under Warranty so do u think i should take it back.

    btw its a maxtor 40gb 7200rpm:confused: :confused: :mad: :mad: :( :(

    Bad sectors is usally bad news :( I agree with RTT that you should send it back if you can.

    Is it an IBM HDD?

    If so... you are the winner of IBM's "Half our buyers get screwed contest!"

    yay...

    If it is a IBM try to get a different kind, if you do manage to get a non messed up drive from them, it is a kick ass HDD, great for OC's but how I have seen it work so far is that there are some people who are just friggin LUCKY and buy a bunch of IBM drives and non of them are messed up, but people like me RMA and RMA and keep getting screwed, and it is not just me.

    lol, i remember reading on these boards somewhere that someone was gonna use 2 ibm deskstars in raid striping! i laughed at him.

    Yes that was me :D (see sig) I erm *borrowed* them from work. Been running for 6 months now wiv no problems.... fingers crossed :rolleyes:
