Hi Hardware knowledgeable people, I'm currently investigating over the ear headphones for my dad for Christmas and was wondering if people here had any input. Budget is around £100, can stretch to £130 (or slightly beyond) if the improvement is huge. Saw him staring longingly at the Bose noise cancelling ones, but they are well beyond my budget at £280 (and this whole investigation could be useless if he gets a bee in his bonnet about wanting those ones). Thanks in advance to those kind helpers.
Audio Technica M50s seem to be the go-to headphone at this price. They come highly recommended if you spend any time looking around any audio forums. They're £120 here: http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/audio-technica-ath-m50.html
now what does he want them for ? if it's just music i don't think you can go far wrong with some beyers you might be able to find them cheaper else where, these have mini subs in them, no they don't i lied, but after listening to them you may well think so Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO Headset - 80 OHM http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynamic-DT770-PRO-Headset-OHM/dp/B0016MNAAI http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/289841-audio-technica-ath-m50-beyerdynamics-dt770-pro.html and a review http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/04/beyerdynamic-dt-770-pro-80-review.html
Thanks for your replies. Yes he just wants to listen to music (at least I imagine so, because he is not a gamer and never watches movies on his laptop). However an additional note is that he may want to use them to listen to an ipod away from home (which would mean making a compromise on sound quality somewhere, either home or away)
