Can someone recommend a 5.1 or 7.1 gaming headset that will plug into my Xonar DG? Or am I just better of buying the Corsair CA-HS1A??

You're best off buying a stereo headphone/headset and using the dolby headphone and virtual 7.1 from your DG.

You're better off getting real headphones and staying far away from headsets sold by PC part manufacturers.

    Here's a nice guide!

EDIT: Never been ninja'd so hard

im really lacking in this area... so a good pair of stereo headsets plugged into a good soundcard can simulate 5.1/7.1?

Just for a different opinion, I love my hs1a, its comfortable, reasonable sound quality for the price and from what people have said, the mic quality is good too.
    (I also have a xonar dg :)

I picked up a logitech g35 for 30 quid, it is usb but I'm blown away by the quality of the surround sound, having only ever used on board sound with rubbish 2.1 speakers (although I now have 4.1 Cambridge audio things.) I'm not an audiophile by any stretch but I can vouch for my experience of virtual surround sound

Yeah they are 7.1, it was an offer on the logitech site over easter if you have bought from them before. To be honest I wish I'd picked up more than one pair. I don't know if it was an error in pricing but they shipped them to me.

I can play the sound through 8 channels if thats what you mean. I thought only the hs1 came with it not the hs1a.

I'd also recommend a set of headphones, not a headset

I'd personally recommend the Audio-Technica AD700's for gaming

The Xonar DG has Dolby headphone surround built into the drivers.

I wouldn't bother getting the hs1 as its quite expensive compared to the competition now.
