I guess buy the fact that you are still having bits coming out that you have used one from an old vehicle, a new one should be clean. Getting the impurities out is bad news, but I use to use a radiator flushing agent from a car shop. Make sure you do it in a well ventulated area and wear rubber gloves, some stuff can be very poisenes. Don't do it near plants or grass cause it kills em.:D

    Be careful

If you’re having problems with bits still coming out, this is worrying. If this is a second hand unit the time it will take you to eradicate the problem you may have been more cost effective to buy a new one?

We have a rad centre here that services and recondition them. If you have one of those near by they may be able to do it for you for a small fee.

I just thought I'd offer my opinion.

hmmm well all the bits have stopped coming out and I use some strong industrial descaler to clean it and its seemed to have worked. One more question the Heater Core is from a MK4 Escort and its aluminum and my waterblock is copper so will i have probs with that? Thanks for the help so far :)

You are talking about galvanic corrosion and the answer is no, if you take the correct prevention. First thing only use ionised water like what is used for irons or car batteries, very cheep. Then get some water wetter by Red Line. This part is important, measure the amount of water that goes into your system in ml's. Then mix the water wetter with the ionises water at a ratio of 1:30. It is important to get it in the right amounts, too little and you loose the advantages of water wetter and too much and your system will run hot by a degree or two. Good luck.

    Tip

Only put additives in the water that are known to benefit the cooling system.

People have tried all sorts of stuff including food dyes with disastrous results.

If you not sure ask and that’s where me and my main man TiTch come into play.

Feel free to wipe your feet the forums that’s why we are here :D

Hehe my mate tried to do that with red food dye to make a long story short he pretty much killed the cooling properties of water he also killed his CPU which was a P4 not cheap all just to make it look red I also neglected to tell him you can get red uv stuff ;)

:( Ive hit a snag the 2 pipes that lead off from the heater core are very big, way too big for 3/8 tubing. I havent tried reducers yet but i doubt i will be able to get them big enough. Help

The heater core ends are they threaded or straight piping. Is the piping copper or aluminium and what is the diameter in mm.

the inside pipes are aluminum and the two plastic pipes that come out are 1.5cm.

Well stepping down will be easy. From a plumbers murchant (B&Q, Whicks or Homebase in UK as well) you can get a copper piping reducer from 15mm (normal tap piping) to 10mm. The 15 mm is slightly over 15mm so you will be able to araldite it over the plastic piping. The 10mm is slightly over 3/4 inch (which is 9.5mm) but you can heat the pvc piping up and squeeze it over. I hope this helps.
