Hi guys, I'm looking to jailbreak my iPhone 3G, it's an 8gb one, running OS 3.1.2. Basically I want to know if anybody has any experience with the software, or if you know of a comprehensive tutorial, let me know... Thanks.
Well, blackra1n is so easy to do, you could probably teach a dog to do it. Go to here and click the little windows flag and it'll dl the program. Then plug in your iphone and run the program, click make it rain, wait while it does its thing. Bob's your uncle Fanny's your aunt, you have a JB'ed iphone. Blackra1n is now an app on your iphone, tap the icon and choose either cydia or rock(i think) or both, they are jb appstores. Now have fun playing around with the new functionality you will get from it. Winterboard is good if you would like to mess with the looks, just google jb themes for iphone and you will get alot of guides. Things to note though, if you delete blackra1n. You'll have to restore to be able to run blackra1n again, otherwise the jb won't work(it does also work with loading a backup after restore). I'm not sure on this, but on my ipod touch 3g, the jb is tethered, so if you turn off the ipod or the battery dies, to use it again you have to jb again. Don't worry though all those settings and apps will still be there as long as you don't restore.
Thankyou . Good luck and feel free to ask for more help with JB. However i don't have a great deal of experience beyond installing blackra1n/cydia and playing with winterboard. [Edit: To uninstall JB apps that you got through cydia you need to go in cydia and go on the manage > packages tab.
easiest way is to use Pwnage Tool to create your own iPhone firmware, pre-jailbroken. PM me if you want one and i'll make one for you.
I wouldn't use BlackRa1n as it messes with your baseband. This is much easier and preserves you baseband (just download, join the two files, and restore to the new firmware in iTunes): http://www.ilikemyiphone.com/2009/1...vate-unlock-iphone-2g-3g-3gs-mac-and-windows/
iPhone is made up of a lot of firmware, the iPhone OS is only a small part of it. baseband is the part of firmware that talks to the modem of the phone, aka the actual phone functionality. look at the options provided in the website given by H2O. and tell me what options you want, i can make one for you. i only use the best tools from the following group of people. http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
Ok cool, kinda lucky then that i used blackra1n on an IPod then, i'll have a look-see at that site. Btw does your method of jb'ing mean that i don't have to have a tethered jb anymore?
@wuyanxu - i would be looking at the option 1.2 on the link H2O provided- but it would have to be the contract version - as I have an iphone 3G, with O2. At the end of the day, as long as I can get it jailbroken - i don't care what happens - i've seen some of the things my friend has done with his and it just looks spectacular, so I want me a piece of the action... Cause I've had so much fun and games getting my iphone restored, if this jailbreak bricks it, is it easy to restore? The other thing I wanted to ask - I've got a lot of apps downloaded from Apple's app store, and podcasts etc, can I keep these and reinstall them after the jailbreak? Thanks in advance, and +rep to everyone who's contributed!
Hi, I know this is bringing up an older thread, but I'm a bit new to this JB business and haven't managed to achieve anything other than updating to 3.1.3 I have tried to downgrade back to 3.1.2 but I keep getting the "this isn't signed by Apple" type of message. I tried Sn0wbreeze to make a custom firmware but all I get is the 1604 error. Also My serial number doesn't seem to match up with the guides on telling how old the phone is. Its in the format xx004xxxxxx Does that mean 2010 week 4? Help please! -J
