I have recently started art and animation design for a tiger diploma, but know nothing of the system requirements... This is a Silly question but i need advice on what type of desktop PC i should buy and if my options at the moment reach the requirements of the software i will be using. Reqs Stated by Tiger. CPU: 1ghz or better. Windows xp or vista: inc SP2 for xp Hard Drive: 500 MB free space or more. Sound Card: 16 bit soundblaster compatible or better. GFX card: 32MB or better, Directx compatible with direct 3D support, texture, lighting. Memory: 256MB or better. Display: moniter capable of running 1024 x 768 screen resolution or better. CD-ROM 16x or better. Direct (x) 9 I probably sound stupid but i was wondering if a zoostorm with: intel dual core E5700 3.0ghz processor, 2GB RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, DVDR+RW,on board sound,MS Office 2010, and windows 7 Premium. :meets those requirements? as i said i have no idea about this stuff and was looking to spend £4-600 on the pc itself... also wondering if you have any suggestions if you know of a better more capable PC for the job. thanks Claws Rated.
Latest issue of custom PC has a decent price list for a PC that is within your budget and will run that program.
That is a low specification from Tiger, it also sounds quite old. The Zoostorm hardware should be fine. The only thing to watch for - is it 32 bit or 64 bit capable software as if 32 bit only buying a PC with 64 bit Windows would cause problems. Also it may not be compatible with Windows 7. Do you have a link to the software company?
I think I'm right in saying that if you're doing anything art/design based (especially animation) you'll want as much RAM as you can afford - that stuff can eat up memory really easily. At least 4GB, I'd have said. The other important element you should consider is the CPU - someone else should be able to give you a recommendation on this, but I'd suggest something i5-flavoured lol The hard drive: I'd think 250GB would serve you well enough. If you're going to be editing large video files, possibly 500GB, and in that case you'll also want to think about a suitable graphics card for encoding, rendering, etc. (though this is largely dependent on how tiger software works) Are you considering building the PC yourself, or buying one pre-made?
Certainly would like to know the software being used to spec properly, the general rule of thumb is lots of RAM will make editing a much more pleasent user experience (quicker basically). If you are going to preview a lot and compile the final edits on the actual workstation too the fastest processor available to your budget is very useful, if the software supports multicore then an Intel Core i5 or i7 should be prerequisites.
Thanks everyone for the help i have decided on the acer predator i5 witch i think should be suitible from all your recomendations. i started to realise it was old specs when i talked to a few people and i will be adding a new GFX card, Removable hard drives and a sound card, i realise that memory will be cobbled up quickly thanks again for the help every that has replied, and i look forward to hearing from you all again yours Claws Rated
