I know that the Title is a little misleading, I'm not sure what the technique is called, but.

I am repainting a laptop, the LCD is my primary problem as the image i'm looking to put on is actually text

    Similar in style to this

But the font size is 56pt's and is too difficult to cut out a stencil.

So does anyone know of any way to transfer a high quality print image onto the painted surface while still maintaining the detail of the original font?

You can try rub-on transfer paper. It's ink jet and laser printer friendly, acid free, and permanent.

Simply print out the text you want, then rub the letters on to your desired surface.

You might consider a clear acrylic top-coat just to be safe.
