I was given an old laptop just to do coursework etc - the only problem is that when I press the power button, everything starts up except the screen. The laptop is : Peacock Challenger 710. Any ideas?

Try removing the topmost panel at the top of the keyboard and looking for the golden ribbon cable to the LCD, unplug it and replug it back in, if that doesnt work the screen is probably dead :(

Does the laptop support an extra screen?

It could be that someone disabled the onboard screen in favour of using an external one.

Could try plugging in an external monitor and having a fiddle.
