    Hi all.

I currently own the pc in the following specification.

    1. Abit Ip35 Pro
    2. Intel Q6600
    3. Corsair XMS2 800 (4gb 2x2gb)
    4. Corsair HX 620 Modular
    5. WD 320GB HD
    6. XFX 8800GTS G92 512MB
    7. X-Fi cheap thing

Which is housed in an Antec 1200. I play on EVE Online and Star Trek Online, as well as some video editing.

    I would like to replace

    .Motherboard

    .Processor

    .Ram

    .Graphics ( I own a 24" Main ( 1080P res ) and a 20" secondary ( 1680 by 1050 )

For much more modern variants, I have at the upper limit £700 to throw at this, maybe more if the parts are worth the cost.

I do plan on pushing the OC a touch so perhaps a warranted cooler would be ideal.

I hope I have stuck to the rules enough, but I am honestly so far out of touch with today's hardware that I need some help here.

    (blames music school)

ATM, ATI graphics cards hold the market. I recommend a 5850 as it's got the best performance/value.

For the CPU, I'd say the i7 930, unless you're an AMD fan. Obviously the mobo will be needed to change. Because of the new triple-channel memory you will need new memory as well. Good thing you want to replace all of that!

Stick in a Titan Fenrir CPU cooler, bump up the overclock and buy a 5850/70.

If you'd prefer a complete overhaul, get a i7 920 with a Titan Fenrir, appropriate motherboard and RAM (I'm no good at those parts so I'll let someone else recommend things) and get a 5850/70.

Would love help in regard to a good motherboard/ram configuration * UK based *

As for the ATi 5870 does anyone here use one of those within Star Trek Online/EVE Online, and could give their opinion?

    CPU: Intel i5 750 - £156.45
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Inte...ld-45nm-Quad-Core-266GHz-8MB-Cache-95W-Retail

    MOBO: Asrock P55 Extreme - £106.40
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asrock-P55-Extreme-Intel-P55-Motherboard-LGA1156

    or

    Asus P7P55D-E LX - £113.45
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus...DDR3-2200(OC)-USB-30-SATA-6Gb-s-SATA-RAID-ATX

    RAM: G-Skill 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 - £101.51
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/180490

    Graphics Card: Sapphire HD 5870 1GB - £319.98
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/199644

The ASRock board had crossfire support & is cheaper than the Asus. However Asus is a more recommended manufacturer in general & the board has USB3 & Sata 6Gb/s support. Personally I'd go for the ASRock as crossfire provides a very attractive upgrade option.

Total is £684.34 with the ASRock board & £691.39 with the Asus board (make sure you use the bit-tech & scan free delivery scheme for all memebrs with 20+ posts).

Re-guarding the motherboard i would go for the
    Gigabyte UD3R
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Giga...e-PCI-E-20-DDR3-2200-1333-SATA-6Gb-s-RAID-ATX
    A i7 930 processor
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Inte...Hz-QPI-48GT-s-8MB-Cache-20x-Ratio-130W-Retail
Or a 920 if you arnt overclocking over 3.8 ghz
Ram 6gb mite be a bit excessive
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/plus...0-(1600)-Non-ECC-Unbuffered-CAS-9-9-9-24-165V

There is also a guy selling a near new i7 and 6gb of ram on the forums for 230 pounds

Reguarding the graphics card it wont really make much of a difference since it is so powerfull anyways

This is if you want i7 if you want i5 the above setup is perfect

i7 will be out of your budget, I look at basic setups once a month usually for on here and a i7 would start at £700, but that is for a whole setup.

    i7 930 - £212

    Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R - £130

    Patriot Viper Extreme Performance 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz - £153

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870 "AVP Edition" 1024MB - £318

Total of £813, so not too far out of budget. I play STO on my 5870, and it still lags, but this could be from my internet connection, as its usually fine but has been playing up for the last month. Saying that, I play Bad Company 2 and thats fine, so it's weird.

    Hope this helps :)

    Edit: Ninja'd twice!!
