Ok, so I'm a man seriously devoid of hobbies.

I realise it's not easy to say "you should do this!" But maybe if you tell me about you hobbies I can steal them!

So. I live in East London in a student residence. It's a little bigger than your average one but I still have minimal storage options so anything too huge is out!

I like mechanical things, the universe, science, engineering efforts, sports...... so yes, help me out! What do you do to fill up your time?!

Well that's what I used to do. I'm at uni now, so I'd like to fill what spare time I have with useful things and not rot away on the interwebs every spare second I have!

Building your own would be very interesting. Sadly my electronic engineering skills are terrible.

Basically I'm looking to develop a new skill!

Airsoft....I know it's one of those outdoorsy things that involves soaking up some vitamin D and socialising lol. I'm sure I've ranted enough about it's awesomeness so I'll just leave it here as a suggestion. I've been more or less inactive on the airsoft scene here for the past year but due to the friendliness of the community I still spend at least one day every fortnight at my local site having a chin wag and playing a few games or going to away games with the team. Had a good xmas drink with them aswell come to think of it.

Other than that, mountain biking, running (more general exercise I suppose?) and exploration activities like hiking. They're the sorts of things I enjoy anyway, I think a persons hobbies is what makes them, afterall it's more often than not what that person truly enjoys, so it's a very personal thing and you should think about what you would love to do or what has always had you in awe and set a target for yourself to get involved and experience it no matter how expensive or time consuming, that's what I did and havn't had a single regret.

Other things would be FMX, Sky diving and i'll even throw modding in there. All things I watched people do, did my research and decided I wanted to give it a shot. It may not be for you in the end but that's all part of personal development, finding out what you like and what you are good at, it doesn't have to be something competitive.

Developing a new skill you say?

Buy a musical instrument, learn how to play and join a band.
Join a rocket club and learn how to blow stuff up.
Take up some form of surfing (I.E. windsurfing).
Take up shooting and aim for the nationals.

That what was I did when starting at Uni.

I pretty much have the same problem in my life. I live in 192 sq feet of apartment/flat. I have my pico-ITX project set up on my bistro table, my laptop with my soft synth on an end table next to my chair.

Life in the land of Lilliput ain't easy.:sigh: Must not make noise. Great pair of Skull Candy headphones and I can do my own hours.

Plenty of space here, but the problem still remains - just can't think of anything I WANT to do.

And electronics don't need much space. Just get a good soldering iron and start with some kits. You don't really have to buy anything extra, just put the kit together and you've already learned a thing or two :)

    Thanks forum warrior.

You might note that the initial post was individual to me, as these things tend to be.

But now you've saved the internet, we can all get on with our lives.

Hmm, but of an odd outburst by Unicorn

Buy a guitar, musical instruments are always a good "hobby" as you nearly always get more out of it the more time and effort you put in so work out being very rewarding. Obviously, as an added bonus they can gain you new friends/relationships with people in bands etc.

You could do community service, Volunteer for a youth club, Soup kitchen, homeless shelter, or an animal shelter. It takes up a good bit of time I do volunteer work for the Young Marines and find that it dose take up a good bit of time.

    fap. or girlfriend... or both?

idk i took a break from my hobby of target shooting. too much conflict because of a few jerks and it was becoming to expensive therefore didn't give me much enjoyment anymore.

still debating if i should sell my ~$3000 worth of equipment. i am hoping to get a very well paying job (canada customs officer) and could buy the stuff back with 1 months worth of pay.

    decisions decisions...

I did used to quite like paintball. Airsoft does look like quite a lot of fun, good way of getting some exercise too! I shall look into it. Hopefully there are some places to do it near/public transport availible to me!

I already play guitar and drums. I tend to find these days though they don't provide the same release as they used too.

    Rocket club sounds AWESOME.

As for the others... Hmm not too sure.

As for the electronics, I'll definitely look into that and having a go at some models. I wouldn't mind an outdoor hobby as well so mountain biking or airsoft is definitely an option!
