I haven't built a new PC for... 8 years. I upgraded CPU/Mobo/Ram about 3 years ago in entirely low mid range spec and when looking for a new GPU over the weekend I found a review of my PSU on here because I couldn't be arsed opening the case to see if it had an 8pin PCI-E connector. So I had some fond memories and thought I'd check out the forum. Anyway now I need to spend 3k on a new PC. Thanks Bit-Tech. What even is any of this stuff? DDR5? Why are 4TB SSDs only 160 quid and Graphics cards 160,000. Does anyone even use SSDs that aren't NVMe (am I getting that right?) Why are the numbers so high on monitor resolutions?

I'm going to I'm going to a 3 Michelin star restaurant first week in December and Bruges the weekend after that. I don't have money for this stuff anymore. The missus is going to stab me. I MISTAKENLY BOUGHT MY MUM BISCUITS FROM FORTNUM AND MASON FOR CHRISTMAS TEN YEARS AGO AND NOW SHE EXPECTS A ****ING HAMPER. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT LONDON IS MUM SHUT UP.

I used to know what I was on about.

Big numbers are still generally better.

    Unless it's temperature.

I actually bought some spinning rust today, still the cheapest extra backup.

I suppose things don't really change much. Bigger number usually good. Simple!

I don't really have anything to back up... Few photos that's it.

Yeah we have a shed load of photos I like to have copies of.

Not that we ever really look at them. I should get some made up into prints I guess.

So yeah, I now have nvme, ssds and HDDs. Actually my boot drive in my old laptop is an msata one.

Funnily enough I came across a dvd writer and floppy drive today, I never use them but you never know when you may need them

If anything its surprising how samey monitor numbers are! Apart from the refresh rate on some of them!

And don't look at the price of 8TB NVMe SSD's...!

I haven't built a new PC since August 2016 :jawdrop:.

I think that when my nephew gets a bit older, I'll convince him that we all had to start our computers with a hand crank and that the internet was in black and white*.

It is fun telling youngsters nowadays about the times when you couldn't remove a USB stick without ejecting it first, or manually turning off the PC after Windows 95 gave you permission to do so.

    *Thank you Armando Ianucci.
