    Yes, typically this is another "Should I take the risk and go for the 64-bit?" thread, I do have a slight different take on it though;

    I see there are pretty much drivers for near enough everything I've got, although, do drivers for 32-bit devices such as my mp3 player, will they work with 64-bit? Or is it a bit of a guess?

    And as for the slightly different take, I've been using the backup feature in Vista, which is great, BUT, do you think I could restore files backed up by the 32-bit variant onto the 64-bit, or would it be better just to manually copy the files onto the other hard drive and then copy them back?

    Cheers

    You will need completly different (64 bit) drivers for every hardware device your connecting to the PC. As for the backup thing, if it is just files and settings that you have backed up then I can't see there being a problem.

    I know the 64-bit version needs different drivers, what I am confused about is (mp3 player a good example again) just has an install file which contains the drivers, these are likely to be 32-bit and NOT 64-bit I assume? Therefore, would the player not work with the 64-bit version?

    go for it pal im using my 64bit almost exclusivly now, only a few specialist apps i use on xp now. and C&C 3 which dosenot work on vista64 (GRR).

    32bit software installs in the win32 part of vista, drivers need to be 64bit, although u can do some jiggery pokery .
    the back up in vista is odd sometimes anyhow so copy files accross and then back as well. although the files should back up from 32 to 64.

    and aside for the nvidia TDR looping issue earlier in the year, vista has never crashed for me, and the only isuue i have at the moment is the sony-erricson software which the capi module fails to start on. but the software still works.

    Mother-Gooser is the game just not starting ?

    if its not probly due the the New securom that thay shiped with it you need to get an no-cd file that replaces 1 file and it should have no problem running it then (you still be able to play on line as i can) {PM me for giveing you help on starting the game you get the same responce on the C&C3 fourms get the NO-CD file}

    i am running XP 32 and Vista 64 (4 disk 2x2 RAID 0) most of my stuff works with it and got 4gb of ram as well {i use XP for norm use and Vista for testing DX10 games}

    I'm on 64 Bit and I have never had an issue getting or a general driver issue. The only problem i've had is Splinter Cell not working but that got patched pretty quick. :)

    Awesome, in which case, 64-bit this week :)

    I'm right in thinking I don't need to bother downloading the mobo drivers either as Windows Updater got them for me last time (32-bit) ?

    @ Dimebar, do you use dual boot with Vista and XP? If so, did you install Vista first on your primary hdd?

    yes i use duall boot.

    to avaoide a nightmare setting up duall boot with vista, install XP first and vista will sort out the duall boot for u all on its own.

    in general always install the oldest OS first, followerd by the newest and finally linux if thats your weapon of choice.

    gotcha, SO,XP on one of the other hdd's, then vista on my raptor, I think, the hdd for the xp install doesn't have to be empty does it? I haven't done an XP install for ages now lol vista has pushed my xp knowledge into the spare 'space' in my memory. This space is shared with beer.

    You should really create a separate partition for it, just to be on the safe side :idea:
