I wish to match an A64 3500+ Winnie (eventually coming in early Jan) with 1 Gb of Corsair TwinXMS (2x512) 3200C2PT (2.5 3-3-6) for a decent overclocking - 2.4-2.5 GHz. Would it be better if I had Geil® Ultra 1.0GB PC4000 Dual Chan DDR Kit (2x512MB) 500MHz (3.5ns Cas 2.5 7-4-4) low latency Platinum Copper heat sink + temp thermometer? Corsair is still a little bit more expensive but whether it has the room to do 230 fsb at 1:1 I still do not know. Any opinions/experience will be very welcome. Cheers
Theres been a few threads recently on RAM for a64's, so have a search. You will be better off with TCCD based memory like OCZ plat rev2's, G skill or Geil ultraX 3200 etc etc. If you want to keep the cost down, OCZ Gold rev3 3700 should be good enough for 250 @ 2.5,3,3. But it wont run 2,2,2 @ 200 like the TCCD will.
I've had the best luck with OCZ myself, on my P4 my PC4000 Gold is going 2.5-3-3-7@265FSB and could go higher at those timings with more voltage (it's at 2.8). Haven't had particularly great luck with Geil myself, but Corsair is always a good bet.
I am running a 3500 at 2.43 with corsair XMS 3200 at 2-3-3-6... but I my self am going 3700 simply for the added head room. I recomend you do the same!
to further confuzle you with my ocz gold pc4000 at 260Mhz 2.5-3-3-8 2t my corsair pc3500 at 200Mhz 2-2-2-5-1t wipes the floor with it
